Ducts is a free, community-supported magazine published at ducts.org. We produce two issues a year, in December and June. Founded in 1999, we’re proud of our decade-plus history in the world of online literary journals, and of our free, New York City reading series Trumpet Fiction. Subscribe for free to receive new issue alerts.
Why the heck are you called Ducts?
‘Cuz we’re the pipeline of personal stories—connecting storytellers with readers. Whether it’s through art, columns, essays, fiction, humor, memoir, or poetry, our artists share their personal impressions, close encounters, and lived experiences of the world.
What does “community-supported” mean?
It means our support comes entirely from you, our readers, and from the generosity of supporting foundations. Funds received go directly back into the magazine and the majority are used to pay our contributors. We are in the process of setting up our own 501c3 for tax-deductible status and will have more info soon on how you can support us.
Who do you publish?
Although we happen to be New York City–based, our authors and artists hail from around the US and the world, and represent both emerging and established talent. Read our submission guidelines, including payment rates (yes, we pay!).
