Hosted by Ducts editor in chief, Mary Cool, this evening will feature YA fiction works-in-progress from authors Beth Ann Bauman, Regan Fad, Emilie Cohen, and Mary Cool. Here are your readers:

Beth Ann Bauman is the author of a short story collection Beautiful Girls, and the young-adult novels Rosie and Skate, which was selected for the New York Times Editors’ Choice list and Booklist’s Top Ten First Novels for Youth, and Jersey Angel, selected by Publishers Weekly, Boston Globe, and The Horn Book as a best summer book. Beth has received fellowships from the Jerome Foundation and the New York Foundation for the Arts. She teaches at the Writer’s Voice of the West Side Y and is on the faculty at Spalding University’s brief-residency MFA program in creative writing.

Emilie Cohen is a born-and-raised New Yorker, and a born-and-raised Yankee fan. She reads and writes Young Adult fiction, mostly because she has the mental age of a sixteen-year-old. This is her first time reading her work in public, and she is humbled and terrified.

Regan Fad wrote stories all the time when she was a child. Somewhere along the way she stopped for reasons she can’t quite remember and a few years back she started writing again for reasons she can’t quite articulate. She practices law to make a living and shares her home on the upper west side with a disdainful cat.

Mary Cool has been editor in chief of Ducts literary magazine and host of the Trumpet Fiction reading series since 2015. Here are three facts about her that may or may not be true: she lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, has one-and-a-half children, and detests most forms of ice cream (gelato is acceptable).

About the Author

Trumpet Fiction is a free, monthly literary reading series in Manhattan that runs from October through June. You can find us on the second Saturday of every month at KGB Bar (85 E 4th Street). The series was founded in 1999 by Jonathan Kravetz, who is also founder and former Editor-in-Chief of Ducts. No RSVPs necessary to attend—the series is free and open to the public.

Twice a year, we feature readers from Ducts magazine, while the remaining readings feature various authors and genres. Stay tuned to the Events page for information on upcoming readings and to see pictures from our past installments.
